Wayland Police Complete Scenario-Based Training with Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Mobile Unit
Wayland, MA – The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) and Wayland Police Department announced the successful completion of a week-long, scenario-based training program aimed at preparing officers for real-life incidents.
The training, which wrapped up the week of September 8, was conducted using the MSO’s Mobile Training Center (MTC) parked in Wayland. A total of 24 Wayland officers participated in the interactive program.
Through the use of video-based simulations, officers were placed in scenarios replicating the types of situations they may face on duty — from routine traffic stops and trespassing calls to high-stress active shooter incidents.
Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian emphasized the importance of hands-on training in preparing officers for the realities of policing.
“Our Mobile Training Center was designed to give officers practical, hands-on experiences that are a direct reflection of the calls and challenges they face in the field,” Sheriff Koutoujian said. “Wayland officers were able to practice their decision-making in real time, ensuring they are more well-prepared to keep their community safe.”
Wayland Police Chief Ed Burman highlighted the value of the training partnership.
“We appreciate the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Koutoujian’s partnership by providing the Mobile Training Center and staff to assist the Wayland Police Department with additional training,” Chief Burman said. “This training and technology will give our officers an opportunity to see how their decision-making skills are during a critical incident. The officers were even put through scenarios where they would have to use their de-escalation tools. It is partnerships like this that teach us how to work together to better serve our communities.”
The MSO Mobile Training Center continues to travel across Middlesex County, bringing advanced, interactive training directly to local departments.
