Man Dies After Medical Emergency During Boston Police Foot Chase
Boston, MA — A man died on Friday, September 12, 2025, after experiencing a medical emergency during a Boston Police Department foot chase, officials confirmed.
According to police, the individual—who they believe may have been under the influence of illegal substances at the time—suffered a medical emergency during the encounter. Officers immediately began rendering first aid and requested additional support from Boston Fire and Boston EMS. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
In the hours following the incident, multiple rumors circulated online, including claims that the man was shot, choked, or beaten by officers. Boston Police strongly refuted those allegations. Officials confirmed that no shots were fired in this case. They also stated there is no evidence to suggest the man was physically assaulted by officers.
Police did note that an officer-involved shooting occurred several hours later in a separate and unrelated incident, during which a Boston Police officer was shot.
Authorities emphasized that officers on scene provided immediate medical care once the man lost consciousness. As part of the investigation, body-worn camera footage from multiple officers will be reviewed.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause of death. Police stated that further details, including the man’s identity and autopsy findings, will be released when appropriate.
