Boston Police Officer and Armed Suspect Shot During Roxbury Foot Pursuit
Boston, MA – A Boston Police officer from District B-2 was shot early Friday morning during a foot chase in Roxbury. The suspect, who opened fire on officers, was also struck when police returned fire.
The incident began at approximately 12:45 a.m. when officers patrolling near 71 Dudley Street observed a group of individuals gathered near a park. As police approached, one individual fled on foot, running toward Kenilworth Street.
During the pursuit, the suspect turned a corner at Dudley and Washington Streets and suddenly opened fire on the pursuing officers with what authorities described as a high-capacity semi-automatic firearm. One officer was struck in the arm. Officers immediately returned fire, hitting the suspect multiple times.
Boston EMS transported both the injured officer and the suspect to local hospitals. Officials confirmed that both remain in stable condition.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu condemned the violence, stating: “It’s just not okay for violence to be happening anywhere in the city of Boston.”
Police noted that District B-2, which covers Roxbury and Mission Hill, has been the focus of proactive patrols in recent weeks following community concerns over rising gun violence.
The Boston Police Department, along with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
